A downloadable game

"When the Doctor gave us lives, and bodies, we weren't given a choice. We weren't given our freedom either; we took it for ourselves."

The Doctor Is Gone is a game about monsters remaking themselves, one body part at a time. Players take on the roles of beings created by the Doctor, sewn together from parts, made to be obedient. But when the game begins, the players have gotten rid of the Doctor and taken over his laboratory, and now they get to do what they want, including reimagining the bodies he created for them.

This game explores themes of transness and disability, with a focus on liberation and self-determination. Content warning for abuse, gaslighting, transphobia, ableism and medical gatekeeping.

The Doctor Is Gone is based on For The Queen by Alex RobertsIt was created using Story Synth, a tool for designing online experiences created by Randy Lubin. It was funded by Story Synth Microgrants from Big Bad Con

Game design, writing and art by myself. The deepest thanks to Randy for a tremendous amount of help with the code, which I could not at all have managed without him.

There's also a pocket version meant to be played around the table or by yourself, originally designed for the Pleasure-Not-Business Card RPG Jam in 2021, which can be downloaded as a pdf. Can be played as a standalone, or in conjunction with the app, replacing the digital drawings with drawings the players make themselves.

Hi,
Thank you for this beautiful game which question our relation to our bodies in a queer way.
We are a group of french creator and we would like to make a French translation of the doctor is gone.
Are you interested ?

Thank you for giving us a lovely game to play.

Thank you so much! There are still a few things with the code that are a little bit wonky, like the way the character cells "jump" sometimes when you change a body part. This I will likely fix in a few days. If you find something that looks weird in your browser please let me know!
